The History of the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally

The story of the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally is one of evolution, community, and a shared passion for the open road.

It didn’t start with massive concerts or corporate sponsorships; it began in 1940 as a simple, grassroots gathering.

Back then, it was nothing more than a hot dog roast on the sands of the greater Myrtle Beach area, where a small group of bikers met to enjoy the ocean breeze and the camaraderie of fellow riders.

Over the decades, that humble beachside cookout transformed into a massive cultural phenomenon. What started with a dozen riders has exploded into a premier destination for the motorcycling community.

Today, the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally brings in over 400,000 bikers for the Spring Rally and up to 200,000 bikers for the Fall Rally, making it one of the largest and most influential gatherings in the United States.

A New Era: The Promotions Group Committee

The year 2020 marked a pivotal turning point for the event’s organization and community relations.

The Myrtle Beach Bike Rally Promotions Group Committee was officially formed to provide a unified voice and strategic direction for the rally.

Led by Chairperson Spider Webb, the committee was established with a dual mission: to enhance the experience for our biker visitors and to ensure the rally remains a positive, beneficial event for the local community.

Under the leadership of Spider Webb and the committee, the rally has seen improved coordination with local businesses and law enforcement, ensuring that the surge of visitors is met with the legendary Southern hospitality the Grand Strand is known for.

Defining the Identity: Why "It Rally" Matters

A major focus of the committee has been the intentional use of the name Myrtle Beach Bike Rally. In the past, the event was often lumped in with various "Bike Weeks" held across the country. However, the term "Rally" transcends the standard industry phrasing.

By consistently using the name Myrtle Beach Bike Rally, the committee has helped the event stand out as a unique, world-class experience, ensuring it isn't confused with other regional or national events.

This distinct identity helps visitors know exactly what to expect: a high-quality, community-focused event that honors its 1940 roots while embracing the future of the riding lifestyle.
